Glenburn Tea Estate, Darjeeling
The Prakash family in Calcutta took it over from the Scottish Tea Company, who started the estate in 1860. The 1,600 acre estate is a part of the southern side of the Rangeet river valley, which is surrounded by other tea estates. The highest point being 3,700ft and reaching down to the Rangeet and Rung Dung rivers. To approach Glenburn, it is convenient to reach Ghoom Jorebungalow and take the road towards Lopchu and Takdah.
The major attraction here is the Burra Bungalow.
Depending on the time of day or your mood, relax in The
Front Verandah, or The Pavilion by the Lily Pond, or in
any of the secluded gardens, each offering dramatic
views of the tea fields, forests, rivers and mountains.
Unwind after a busy day in front of a crackling fire in
The Drawing Room, join your hosts for a drink, and then
enjoy the ceremony of a sit-down dinner in The Dining
Room served in true planter’s style.
There are four very well appointed suite rooms, theme
based, overlooking the valley across to Sikkim. All the
rooms can have an upgrade to an extra bed. The food is
in the traditional planters style served at the most
exotic locations in and around the bungalow. The more
adventurous can even spend a night at the river camp,
which has two double bedded rooms.
